The department was founded in 1993. The office is in a one room unit located on the first floor of the Begich Towers. The station has no place to hold or interrogate people. The force is made of one chief and two officers all year round. Temporary officers are hired during the summer months, when the town is full of tourists. The department has use of three Ford Explorer SUVs and two ATVs. The SUV's are white in color and features a mountain range profile. During the tourist season, they mainly deal with property crimes and traffic offences.
